requires thinking about what a candidate will actually do. This week
Jim lays out a framework for understanding your own ballot, then

## Key points

The three Ps. Voters divide into those who vote the party, those
who vote the person, and those who vote the policy. Jim is blunt
about the first group and generous about the second — character and
integrity count for something — but argues the third is where
substance actually lives. In full disclosure, he votes Republican
most of the time, because that's where his values land.

On independents. He's skeptical. In his experience they vote
one way consistently while keeping the label as cover, so they never
have to own the outcome.

New York's tax base. The common read is that driving out the
wealthy destroys the revenue that pays for everything. Jim offers
another angle: the void left behind gets filled by government, and
dependence is the point rather than the accident.

The founders' framework. Life means the right to defend yourself,
your family, and your property. Liberty means freedoms that Americans
take for granted and that genuinely don't exist in much of the world.
The pursuit of happiness means you're not born into your parents'
trade.

Iran. Three options: sustained pressure, an on-and-off cycle that
becomes a forever war, or withdrawal. Jim argues for the first and
against the other two — nobody, including Trump's most loyal
supporters, wants an open-ended conflict.

The midterms. Oil back over $100 a barrel means gas prices, then
grocery prices, then everything. Inflation and GDP are better than
the coverage suggests, but the messaging isn't landing, and interest
rates need to come down far enough that a young person can believe
a first home is possible.

Dignity. You feel something when you finish cutting the grass.
Same with a paycheck. Supporting yourself means answering to nobody.
